Mash-Up of Patented Technologies

This Chukka Boot is from the forthcoming Barbour vs Rockport collection, which will also include a Cap Toe Boot and Plain Toe Boot. I think they all look great; light-years away from Rockport’s usual pensioner shoes.  They somehow blend the signature qualities of both brands to perfection.

From Barbour, the boots incorporate waxed cotton on the uppers and heritage tartan for the lining and trim. From Rockport, we see Walkability outsoles, pull-up leathers and rawhide laces. All refined yet rugged stuff. Then to cap it off they’ve chucked in AdiPRENE, for ultimate cushioning and shock absorption at the heel.

The inclusion of AdiPRENE, caught my attention as it’s an Adidas proprietary technology that’s only be around for the last couple of years. It’s no different to ASICS GEL – the cushioning technology that elevated ASICS into a Running League of its own. Unfortunately for ASICS their Patent ran out two years ago, so any “Joe” can use this number one cushioning technology as they please (all be it under a different name).

ASICS’ loss is clearly Adidas’ gain, as “their” technology gains fame and credibility as an ingredient brand.
